Homeopathic First Aid Therapy for Pain & Injury

July 2007

Summer is here!  Sunny days, summer breezes, beautiful flowers, fun on the beach, picnics, cook outs and other outdoor activities that make the summer season enjoyable and exciting. Sunburn, allergens, insect bites, and injuries such as cuts, burns and contusions are also a part of summer. We would like to share some information about homeopathic first aid that is safe, and just may limit visits to the doctor’s office this summer.

Let’s talk a little about homeopathic first aid therapy. The goal of Homeopathic first aid is to bring balance in the body in an emergency by using treatment that works with the body’s natural path.

What is Homeopathy?  Homeopathy is based on a system of medicine that purposes to bring about balance or homeostasis in the body. The human body is consistently at work to bring about order because a constant state of disorder brings on disease. Homeopathy seeks to discover what the body is trying to do and aids it along its path to bring the body back to a normal base.  A symptom is the body’s way of revealing what path it wants travel. We should work with the body and not fight against it or interfere with the natural path it is traveling. When we oppress the body and suppress disease we are interfering with the body’s defense mechanism. When that happens, we mistake disease mechanism with defense mechanism and slow down the immune system. Trauma, swelling, warmth to a wounded area, contusion, pain signals and inflammation is the body’s way of saying there is injury and to be careful not to further aggravate the injured area and to give the body space to heal itself. Cells are capable of storing the data of a traumatic event as a defense mechanism so if the traumatic event reoccurs the body responds. So what does this have to do with homeopathy? Homeopathy is based on the premise that like cures like. This is known as the law of similarities. When the body is traumatized it produces a defense response that manifest symptoms such as headache, pain, fever, mucus, etc. Homeopathic remedies works to identify the symptoms that a person is exhibiting. When a person is experiencing pain and responds to the pain by “striking out” as a defense mechanism, chamomile (chamomilla) can be an effective homeopathic remedy because chamomilla has a sensitive, irritable, thirsty, hot and numb profile. A chamomilla profile would be ineffective in a person that has a mild, calm and gentle disposition. Example, if a child is irritable and ‘strikes out” as a result of teething pain, chamomilla or chamomile is an effective homeopathic remedy because it has an irritable profile.

The mineral Sulphur is found in every cell of the body. Sulphur is especially concentrated in the hair, skin and nails which makes Sulphur an effective homeopathic remedy when a person has skin problems. Sulphur is also an effective homeopathic remedy for those who dislike getting into the water whether it’s to bathe or to swim.

The prescribed remedy must match the person’s profile –like cures like. The mental profile of the person being treated must match the profile of the homeopathic remedy being used. Here is an example. Pulsatilla has a weepy profile. Some females get weepy during their cycle so Pulsatilla is a good remedy because the two profiles match. Sepia on the other hand is effective in females who may be irritable during the time of their cycle. Sepia would not be a helpful remedy for someone with a weepy profile. Both remedies are good for treating PMS symptoms, however, the homeopathic remedy will only be effective if the mental profile of the person using it matches the profile of the remedy to be used.

Some of substances used in homeopathy such as mercury can be very toxic so caution should be exercised when attempting to make remedies on your own. Some homeopathic remedies can be made safely and easily at home such as a remedy for the common cold. The primary ingredients are as follows:

1. Natural substance: Onion (Crushed-extract some of the juice)

2. Fill tube with 100 parts water.

3. Add 10 drops of onion juice, cover.

4. Beat (shake) 10 times -1/10th

5. Beat continuously in 10x quotas

6. Take 10 drops from the beaten tube and place it in 100 parts water

7. Beat (shake) 10 times.

8. Take 10 drops from the 100 parts water and place in a 100 parts

water, and continue the process about 30 times, you get a 30x solution which is the standard for homeopathic products purchased in the store. This is how basic homeopathic remedies are made.

 9. Dosing: 2 to 3 hour intervals, maximum 9 doses.

10. Prescription: Symptoms and defense.
